Geronimo Wins City of Melbourne Retrofit Performance Project

  • Geronimo Advisory has been appointed to lead thermal performance and energy efficiency for six key City of Melbourne community buildings.
  • In collaboration with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, through its C40 Cool Cities Network and Accelerator initiative.
  • The project will develop practical, replicable retrofit pathways, case studies, and a “how-to” guide to help councils improve building resilience, energy efficiency, and thermal comfort in a warming climate.

We’re thrilled to share that Geronimo Advisory has been appointed to lead the Thermal Performance and Energy Efficiency assessment across some of the City of Melbourne’s key community buildings. This is part of the C40 Cool Cities Network and Accelerator initiative.

This work matters, because it isn’t just about looking at 6 buildings – Town Hall, Child Care, Community, Aquatic, Sports and Family Services Facilities – but about creating replicable methods and guides so that other councils and facility managers have something to work from when future- proofing their buildings. It is also asking the question: if these buildings are places to keep people safe when it is hot, what will be the impact as the climate warms, and what can we do about it?

The project will deliver:

  • Real-world audit of energy use and thermal comfort.
  • Clear retrofit pathways with cost, carbon, and comfort impacts.
  • Case studies grounded in lived experience.
  • A practical “how-to” guide for municipal building optimisation.
  • A communications stream to bring the Melbourne community along the journey – expect regular updates.

We’re excited to get started. Over the next few months we will be visiting the buildings, installing sensors, taking thermal images, doing LiDAR scans, surveying and interviewing users to help shape a retrofit story that is practical, human, and grounded in data.

Our team are collaborating with Dr Pippa Soccio and Noy Hildebrand and can’t wait to be working on this together over the next 6 months. Stay tuned!
